Position Summary

Village Christian School is seeking a qualified High School Marine Science Teacher to provide engaging, Christ-centered instruction in Marine Science. This position integrates a distinctly Christian worldview into scientific exploration while fostering critical thinking, environmental stewardship, and academic excellence. The teacher cultivates a CAREing classroom environment grounded in respect, inquiry, and passion for scientific discovery, helping students grow intellectually and spiritually.

This role involves approximately two teaching periods and active participation within the High School academic community.


Essential Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

  • Provide high-quality Marine Science instruction aligned with school curriculum
  • Integrate a Christian worldview into scientific inquiry and environmental topics
  • Develop and maintain organized course outlines and daily lesson plans
  • Plan and deliver engaging instructional activities, including labs and hands-on learning
  • Establish and communicate clear learning objectives
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs
  • Utilize relevant and innovative technology to enhance learning
  • Assess student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback
  • Maintain accurate gradebooks, attendance records, and progress reports

Classroom Leadership

  • Maintain a disciplined, respectful, and grace-filled learning environment
  • Enforce school policies and procedures consistently
  • Be available to students and parents before and after school
  • Communicate regularly with parents and administration regarding student progress

Professional & Community Engagement

  • Serve as a “1:5 adult,” providing mentorship, academic support, and advocacy
  • Participate in department meetings, faculty meetings, and assigned school events
  • Attend overnight trips as assigned
  • Engage in ongoing professional development
  • Complete supervisory and extra-duty assignments as required
  • Collaborate with colleagues and maintain professionalism within the VCS community
  • Abide by policies outlined in the VCS Employee Handbook

  • Demonstrates a dynamic, growing Christian faith
  • Serves as a spiritual role model for students
  • Maintains commitment to the Village Christian School Statement of Faith
  • Supports the mission and ministry of Christian education

Qualifications

Village Christian School seeks employees with a vibrant Christian faith. Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree in Science or education field preferred
  • Teaching credential preferred
  • Strong content knowledge in Marine Science or related scientific discipline
  • Effective classroom management skills
  • Experience integrating laboratory instruction and technology
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Teachers with four (4) or more assigned teaching periods are eligible for benefits.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to traverse campus and lead students to safety in an emergency
