Head Wrestling Coach

Village Christian School – Sun Valley, CA

Position Type: Part-Time, Exempt, Seasonal
Compensation: $3,000 – $4,000 stipend (based on qualifications and experience)
Reports To: Athletic Director

Position Summary

The Head Wrestling Coach leads and oversees the Village Christian School Wrestling program, providing instruction, mentorship, and competitive leadership to student-athletes. This position is responsible for organizing practices, developing athlete skills, establishing match strategy, and fostering discipline and sportsmanship within a Christ-centered athletic environment. The Head Wrestling Coach supports athletic excellence while modeling integrity, perseverance, and Christian character consistent with the mission of Village Christian School.

Essential Responsibilities

Program Leadership

• Organize and direct all aspects of the wrestling program
• Plan and conduct effective practices focused on skill development, conditioning, and strategy
• Assess athlete abilities and provide individualized instruction
• Determine competitive lineup and match strategy
• Supervise student-athletes during practices and competitions

Athlete Development

• Instruct athletes in the rules, techniques, conditioning, and safety protocols of wrestling
• Promote discipline, resilience, teamwork, and personal growth
• Encourage Christ-centered character and sportsmanship
• Monitor athlete eligibility and academic standing

Administrative & Operational Duties

• Distribute and maintain equipment and uniforms
• Maintain required eligibility forms and emergency documentation
• Follow established procedures in the event of injury
• Collaborate with the Athletic Director and school administration
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

Village Christian School seeks employees with a vibrant Christian faith. Successful candidates will demonstrate:

• High School Diploma required
• Coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level preferred
• Strong knowledge of wrestling fundamentals, conditioning, and competitive strategy
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
• Strong leadership and organizational skills
• Ability to work cooperatively within the Athletic Department
• Commitment to promoting sportsmanship and student development

This is a seasonal, stipend position reporting directly to the Athletic Director.
