SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Reporting to the Director of Student Success Services (SSS), the SSS Teacher supports students with learning disabilities by helping them access the curriculum and develop the skills needed for academic success while growing in Christ. Through instruction, accommodations, and relational support, the teacher helps students recognize, develop, and use their individual God-given abilities. This role seeks to cultivate an environment where students grow spiritually, excel academically, and learn to impact their community. 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and effectively teach middle school/ high school Math in a small-group classroom setting for students with learning disabilities.
  • Teach high school and middle school math from a biblical worldview
  • Assist classroom teachers in providing and implementing accommodations.
  • Update and maintain student accommodation plans, ensuring documentation remains accurate and current.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, including facilitating annual accommodation meetings and providing updates on student progress.
  • Support academic support students in developing organizational skills, study strategies, and homework completion routines.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of student progress and communication with parents and teachers.
  • Provide a nurturing, structured, and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and independence.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate standards of student behavior to ensure an orderly and productive classroom environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Success Services.

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS/REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ; be involved with an evangelical, protestant church of like faith and practice; and agree with the philosophies, Statement of Faith and Statement of Christian Life Commitment of Southside Christian School.
  • Willing to enroll eligible children at Southside Christian School
  • Must be able to articulate a deep understanding of a biblically informed philosophy of Christian education. 
  • Must have experience working directly with students. Experience in working with students with learning disabilities is preferred.
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage a classroom effectively, teach with excellence, and create an engaging, relational, and supportive learning environment.
  • Show excellence in planning, collaboration, teamwork, and communication.
  • Be creative, demonstrate a strong work ethic, think outside the box, and work effectively as part of a team.
  • A bachelor's degree is required, master's preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain ACSI Certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking around the classroom.
  • Must be able to respond to students in an emergency.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
