Position Title: Theatre Teacher
Reports To: Director of The Arts
Status: Full-Time
Work Schedule: M-F (7:30AM-4:00PM) with required evenings and weekends for rehearsals and performances.
Position Purpose:
The Woodlands Christian Academy is seeking a Theatre Teacher for the upcoming 2026/2027 school year beginning August 1, 2026. The Theatre Teacher is responsible, under the direction of the Director of Fine Arts, to inspires and trains students in both performance and technical theatre for middle and high school levels. This role emphasizes active participation, helping students develop skills in acting, improvisation, stagecraft, and production while fostering confidence, creativity, and a God-honoring approach to the arts. The teacher guides students in both onstage performance and backstage technical work, ensuring every student has the opportunity to grow and share their talents.
Essential Functions:
- Teach theatre courses for Middle School and Upper School, including acting, improvisation, and technical theatre.
- Ensure participation and performance are integral to every class, helping students learn by actively engaging in rehearsals and productions.
- Plan, direct, and oversee full-scale productions, including plays, musicals, and staged scenes, guiding students onstage and behind the scenes.
- Mentor students in acting, voice, movement, character development, and technical theatre skills such as lighting, sound, set design, costumes, and props.
- Collaborate with the Fine Arts team to coordinate schedules, productions, cross-disciplinary projects, and school events.
- Provide constructive feedback and support for student growth, portfolio development, and performance assessments.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment that encourages creativity, teamwork, discipline, and excellence.
- Participate in evening and weekend rehearsals and performances as required.
- Responds appropriately in the event of an emergency, ensuring that students are safe and following safety guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in education or a related field.
- Successful teaching experience in field preferred.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
- Ability to independently supervise 20 or more students.
- Ability to handle emergency situations, fire drills, and communications as necessary or appropriate for the safety of the students and school.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The ideal candidate can:
- Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
- Work in standard office conditions and climate.
- Work in varied extreme outside weather conditions during special activities and fundraising events, as needed.
- Perform in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Sit and stand for extended periods of time; bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
- Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
