Position Title: Lower School Art Teacher
Reports To: Director of The Arts
Status: Full-Time
Work Schedule: M-F (7:30AM-4:00PM) with required evenings and weekends for rehearsals and performances.
Position Purpose:
The Woodlands Christian Academy is seeking an innovative and mission-driven art educator who desires to help build and shape a thriving, vertically aligned PK–12 visual arts program for the upcoming 2026/2027 school year beginning August 1, 2026. This role is for an educator who sees art as essential to spiritual, intellectual, and cultural formation and desires to build systems, curriculum, and culture—not simply deliver lessons. This is an opportunity to influence curriculum design, exhibition culture, interdisciplinary connections, and long-term program growth while inspiring students from early childhood through advanced high school levels.
Essential Functions:
- Teach courses across assigned grade levels (PK–5th depending on experience and program need).
- Develop and refine a vertically aligned PK–12 visual arts curriculum.
- Instruct in foundational and advanced techniques including drawing, painting, design, mixed media, and digital art.
- Integrate art history, global perspectives, and aesthetic literacy.
- Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners.
- Assess student growth in skill, creativity, and conceptual understanding.
- Strengthen integration between art, STEM disciplines, and humanities.
- Expand student exhibition opportunities on campus and in the broader community.
- Mentor advanced students in portfolio development and competition preparation.
- Cultivate a studio environment that reflects both discipline and imagination.
- Organize and steward studio materials and resources responsibly.
- Curate and oversee art exhibitions and displays.
- Collaborate with the Fine Arts team to coordinate events and interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Engage in ongoing professional development.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and administration.
- Support extracurricular growth such as art club, competitions, or portfolio workshops.
- Responds appropriately in the event of an emergency, ensuring that students are safe and following safety guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education or related field (Master’s preferred).
- State teaching certificate or ACSI Certification.
- Strong studio background and technical fluency.
- Experience across multiple age levels preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to team culture.
- Organizational leadership and initiative.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the public.
- Ability to independently supervise students.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The ideal candidate can:
- Occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
- Work in standard office conditions and climate.
- Work in varied extreme outside weather conditions during special activities and fundraising events, as needed.
- Perform in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts.
- Sit and stand for extended periods of time; bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
- Hear and understand speech at normal classroom levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal classrooms, outdoors, and on the telephone.
