The First Academy - Orlando, FL
Full-time
Application Deadline: May 1, 2026

The First Academy is seeking a versatile and mathematically proficient Middle School Mathematics Teacher to guide students through a critical developmental window of numerical reasoning and logical problem-solving. The ideal candidate will be an expert in scaffolding instruction, taking students from the foundational mastery of fractions, decimals, and percents in Math 1 and 2 to the rigorous, high-school-level demands of Honors Algebra I and Honors Geometry. We are looking for an educator who can move beyond rote memorization to foster a deep, conceptual understanding of how mathematical techniques apply to real-world phenomena. Whether you are introducing the beauty of variables in Pre-Algebra or leading eighth graders through the complexities of trigonometry and coordinate geometry proofs, you will play a vital role in building the academic framework necessary for success in the Upper School and beyond.

Core Instructional Competencies

  • The Science of Reading Mastery: Implementing explicit, systematic phonics and orthographic mapping to bridge the gap between spoken sounds and written graphemes.
  • Mathematical Fluency & Logic: Utilizing visual learning and timed drills to improve automaticity in addition and subtraction, ensuring students can solve problems quickly and accurately.
  • Worldview Mentorship: Leading students through a spiral sequence of Biblical Truths, incorporating daily prayer, devotions, and scripture memory into all subject areas.
  • Balanced Writing Instruction: Guiding the developmental shift from inventive phonetic spelling to formal sentence structure and the multi-step writing process (drafting, revising, and editing).
  • Inquiry-Based Discovery: Facilitating hands-on science experiments and "myWorld" social studies interactions that foster critical thinking about God’s orderly creation.

Classroom Management: Maintaining a "Safe Place" culture that emphasizes social-emotional maturity, self-regulation, and "learning and working together."

Living as a Christ Follower

  • Statement of Doctrinal Beliefs: The applicant must affirm and sign the school's Statement of Doctrinal Beliefs, demonstrating belief in core Christian doctrines and acknowledging that their growing relationship with Jesus Christ shapes their worldview, decisions, and purpose (Matthew 16:24).
  • Personal Commitment: Possess a verifiable, active personal relationship with Jesus Christ, evident in their words, actions, gratitude, and dedication to their work.
  • Active Church Involvement: Maintain active, consistent membership and involvement in a local, evangelical, Bible-believing church, prioritizing spiritual growth as foundational to ministry.
  • Lifestyle Standards: Agree to uphold a Christian lifestyle both on and off campus, modeling Christ-like virtues, seeking and following the Holy Spirit's guidance, and relying on God's grace to persevere.
