Job Title: Elementary School Teacher - Christian Heritage School

Position Overview:

The Lower School Teacher at Christian Heritage School will create and deliver an engaging and developmentally appropriate curriculum for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. This individual will foster a dynamic Christian learning environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, creativity, and academic growth while supporting each child's social-emotional development. The Teacher will work closely with colleagues, administration, and parents to cultivate a collaborative and engaging classroom that aligns with the school’s vision, mission, values, and beliefs.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Curriculum and Instruction:

  • Implement a differentiated, standards-based curriculum that meets the needs of diverse learners.
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies and instructional techniques to engage students and encourage active participation.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons in core subjects such as language arts, math, science, and social studies, aligned with the school’s academic standards and best practices in education.
  • Integrate technology, hands-on activities, and meaningful learning to enhance student engagement and deepen understanding.
  • Assess student progress regularly through formal and informal methods, providing feedback that supports growth and improvement.

Classroom Management and Environment:

  • Create a positive and safe classroom environment that fosters respect, collaboration, and student accountability.
  • Establish clear expectations for behavior and consistently enforce classroom rules, promoting a culture of kindness, empathy, and responsibility.
  • Implement classroom management strategies that promote a calm and orderly learning environment, addressing challenges with patience and professionalism.

Student Support and Development:

  • Identify and support students' individual learning needs, providing targeted instruction and accommodations as necessary.
  • Promote social-emotional learning (SEL) and character development, helping students to build interpersonal skills, resilience, and self-regulation.
  • Collaborate with the school's student support council to ensure that students with learning differences, behavioral challenges, or emotional needs receive the necessary accommodations and interventions.

Collaboration and Professional Development:

  • Participate in faculty meetings, team planning sessions, and school events, contributing to a positive and collaborative school culture.
  • Work closely with colleagues to develop interdisciplinary projects, share teaching strategies, and align on school-wide goals.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, classroom activities, and concerns, fostering strong family partnerships.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with educational research, teaching techniques, and classroom technology.

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field is required
  • A valid teaching certification or license is required.
  • Strong understanding of child development and the unique needs of elementary-aged students.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to create an engaging and supportive classroom environment that promotes CHS Christian values and beliefs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching in private or independent schools.
  • Familiarity with best practices, differentiated instruction, and integrating technology into the classroom.
  • Understanding social-emotional learning (SEL) and how to incorporate it into daily instruction.
