Learning Support Teacher

Required Qualifications:

  • Passion for serving God in the context of education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
  • Valid Teaching Certificate 
  • Valid Special Education Certification/Endorsement 
  • (Life experience related to content and/or teaching may substitute for a Teacher Certificate in some situations.) 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two or more years of successful teaching experience
  • Prior experience in an international school
  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field
  • Understanding of Common Core Standards
  • Experience with English Language Learners (ELL)
  • Diagnostician credentials or other testing credentials 
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn of US Federal law around ADA, FAPE and Civil Rights of persons with disabilities

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans 
  • Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students 
  • Develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for each student with needs 
  • Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities 
  • Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one 
  • Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress 
  • Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals 
  • Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, and administrators 
  • Mentor para-professionals who work with students with disabilities 
  • Prepare and help students transition from grade to grade and after graduation 
  • Collaborate on training for teachers in professional development settings
