Primary Objective:

The primary objective of the director of fine arts at Whitefield Academy is to create and evolve vision and foster strategic growth for the fine arts programs while also ensuring alignment between the fine arts and Whitefield Academy’s Christ-centered, college prep mission. The director of fine arts oversees the program leads in all areas pertinent to program development, and he/she supports the department chair in areas related to curriculum, assessment,  grading, etc. This person advocates for the fine arts on the leadership team through vision-casting, strategic planning, and collaboration across divisions and departments. The fine arts director also promotes Whitefield’s fine arts program within the community and aims to deepen external partnerships and networking off-campus. Aiming to foster unity and cohesion amongst all members of the fine arts faculty, the director of fine arts serves to deepen the understanding and appreciation of our God-given gifts and protects the mission of the School, ensuring that the School’s arts programming always glorifies God and edifies others.

Key Responsibilities:

  • People Leadership: Oversee all Program Leads
  • People Leadership: Support the Fine Arts Department Chair and all fine arts teachers

  • School Leadership 

Professional and Personal Attributes, Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Preferred Masters degree in Education, with specific experience in Performing Arts, Visual Arts, or similar field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience working in academic institutions; at least 5 years leading a program, team, or division.
  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience in the arts.
  • Exhibits a passion for programmatic and performance excellence while at the same time aligned to a Christ-centered mission.
  • Demonstrate excellent strategic leadership, including highly developed skills to plan and drive the continued improvement, growth, and development of the School.
  • Demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills through effective communication and conflict management.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to positively inspire and influence others.
  • Effective listener, speaker, and writer; displays highly developed skills in written and oral communication.
  • Displays a commitment to Christian schooling in general and the mission of Whitefield Academy specifically.
  • Shows evidence of a commitment to continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
  • Exhibits strong team building skills, maturity, and the ability to work effectively and collegially with various constituents.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and/or Google Suite.

In addition, the person should:

  • Commit to living his/her life under the lordship of Christ.
  • Model a consistent daily walk with Jesus Christ, and be a Christian role model in speech, actions, and attitudes, which contributes to the spiritual atmosphere of the School.
  • Believe and affirm the School’s Statement of Faith.
  • Commit to exhibiting Whitefield’s core value for our students to experience diversity that reflects the body of Christ and support the school’s diversity vision that aims at unity in Christ.
  • Demonstrate evidence of consistent spiritual activities such as worship at a local church, fellowship with the body of Christ, personal devotional time with the Lord, and individual study of scripture.
  • Evidence of the fruit of the Spirit in the nurturing of relationships with other staff members, students, families, and the community at large.
  • Be actively involved in a local church.
