Upper School Principal

Direct Reports: Upper School Faculty & Staff

 

Primary Function: The Upper School Principal is responsible for implementing the vision and providing the leadership to effectively manage the faculty and students of the upper school division.  The position reports to the Associate Head of School and is an active member of the school’s senior staff.

General Qualifications:

  1. Evidence of a mature personal Christian faith consistent with the Charlotte Christian Statement of Faith.
  2. Demonstrate understanding of and a commitment to the distinctive qualities of Christian education as well as the mission of Charlotte Christian School.
  3. Possess a master’s degree in educational leadership, curriculum and instruction, or a related area. 
  4. Licensure by a regional accrediting agency is preferred.
  5. Minimum of 5 years experience as a school administrator.
  6. Previous classroom teaching experience.
  7. Evidence of strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and technological skills.

 

Primary Responsibilities: 

The ideal candidate will:

  1. Promote the growth, development, and professionalism of the upper school faculty 
  2. Serve as the spiritual leader for the division’s students and team members 
  3. Oversee the educational and spiritual well-being of the students of the upper school 
  4. Work closely with the senior staff to promote the goals of the entire school
  5. Evaluate and develop the upper school academic program, including curriculum, course offerings, and technology integration in conjunction with the director of academics 
  6. Serve as a resource for upper school faculty in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures
  7. Communicate with upper school parents about pertinent divisional initiatives
  8. Evaluate faculty and staff throughout the year and create applicable professional development plans for them
  9. Oversee evaluative grades, comments, and records of students
  10. Oversee division budget, technology, and facility needs
  11. Partner with the Admissions Office in the annual admissions and re-enrollment season, and assist in the evaluation of admission candidates
  12. Manage and oversee the upper school schedule and calendar 
  13. Oversee the upper school prefect system and Winterim program offerings.

  7. Maintain confidentiality about school matters.
  8. Work collaboratively within a team.
  9. Present a positive image of the school to others and to the community.
