The Director of College Counseling is responsible for leading the college counseling department of the School of Rhetoric. This includes providing academic and college advising to a caseload of approximately 170 students (grades 9 - 12) regarding college opportunities and coordinating assistance during the application process. This person oversees a full-time associate director of college counseling, who has the other half of students, as well as a part-time administrative assistant.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Overseeing College Counseling Program
Meeting with students, parents, college representatives
Advocating for our students with colleges
Developing programing for parents and students to learn about the college application process
Ensuring key documents and recommendation letters are delivered on time and in high quality
Academic Advising
Helping students and families navigate their SOR academic experience with an eye towards graduation requirements as well as their college goals
Standardized Testing
Helps arrange the school-wide taking of various standardized tests
End of Year Events
Help direct academic awards ceremonies as well as support leadership in Baccalaureate and Commencement ceremonies
Regular Updates
Help create and update the school’s annual Academic Profile
Prepare monthly updates for Head of SOR and annual report in May for Head of School
Prepare and manage annual budget for the College Office
Maintain and update college website as necessary
Monthly communication with parents and students regarding various college topics of interest (e.g. newsletter)
SKILLS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
3-5 years minimum experience in college admissions or high school college counseling preferred
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Familiarity with the goals, objectives, and mission of a classical Christian school
Ability to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse and demanding student and parent population
Advanced Knowledge of colleges and their academic programs, admission policies, and financial aid procedures.
