ARC Learning Specialist Job Description

The Academic Resources Center (ARC) Learning Specialist is responsible for supporting students with mild to moderate learning differences in acquiring the necessary skills to be independent learners in Brook Hill’s college preparatory environment. The ARC Learning Specialist reports to the Director of ARC.

Classification: This is a full-time, exempt position.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree (minimum) in Education or related field
  • State Teacher Certification
  • 2-5+ years of experience with high school curriculum preferred

Primary Functions:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide individualized and small group academic support on the Upper School campus through direct instruction and in-class assistance.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to differentiate instruction and implement appropriate accommodations based on student needs and support plans.
  • Design, implement, and monitor Student Support Plans, including academic accommodations and executive function strategies, in coordination with the ARC Director.
  • Teach executive functioning, study skills, and self-advocacy in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Assess student needs using diagnostic tools and school data; adjust instructional goals and support strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress, interventions, diagnoses, therapies, and academic performance.
  • Communicate regularly with teachers, administrators, and parents to provide updates, address concerns, and collaborate on strategies to support student growth.
  • Assist with professional development for faculty on instructional differentiation, intervention strategies, and understanding learning differences.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional methods, including the integration of technology, to reinforce subject matter and support learning goals.
  • Support students’ personal and social development by reinforcing classroom expectations and offering guidance that promotes confidence and independence.
  • Participate actively in school-wide initiatives and collaborate with the ARC team and other staff to promote a culture of academic support and student success.
