Position: Middle School Teacher–Physical Science

Responsible to: Middle School Principal 

Hours: 10 month employee, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A deep faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and acceptance of the authority of Scriptures as a guide for faith and living
    • Actively pursues spiritual growth through personal devotions, Bible study, church involvement, etc.
  • Understand and actively support The Christ School's mission, vision, and defining characteristics 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college/university
  • Proficiency in GoogleSuite (docs, sheets, gmail, calendar)
  • Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate professionalism and confidentiality in all aspects of the job
  • Must be able to effectively traverse possibly uneven ground 
  • Must be able to ascend/descend multiple flights of stairs and transport about 10-15 pounds

 

The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in education and at least 5 years of experience, preferably in an independent, Christian school.

 

General Responsibilities:

High-Quality Instruction:

  • Deliver dynamic, standards-aligned instruction in Physical Science (including foundational concepts in physics and chemistry).

  • Facilitate learning of key topics such as motion and forces, energy, waves, matter and its interactions, chemical reactions, etc.

  • Use a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on experiments, demonstrations, modeling, and inquiry-based learning.

  • Integrate biblical worldview connections into science content, emphasizing God's order, design, and creativity in the physical world.

Student Engagement:

  • Create an intellectually stimulating classroom environment that inspires curiosity about the natural world.

  • Encourage scientific thinking and the application of the scientific method through lab investigations, real-world problem solving, and collaborative learning.

Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Design and administer formative and summative assessments that align with learning objectives and science standards.

  • Provide constructive, timely feedback to guide student understanding and growth in scientific thinking.

Learning Environment:

  • Establish and maintain routines and classroom norms that support safety, particularly during lab work.

  • Create a respectful, joyful space where students are free to explore, ask questions, and take risks in their learning.

Model Christ-Centered Behavior:

  • Lead by example in demonstrating Christ-like behavior and values, integrating Scripture and a Christian worldview in discussions about science, ethics, and stewardship.

  • Encourage students to see science as a way to discover more about God’s creation.

Collaborate with Colleagues:

  • Partner with fellow teachers across departments to integrate interdisciplinary connections and align curriculum.

  • Participate in curriculum review and school improvement initiatives.

 

Partner with Parents:

  • Communicate proactively and professionally with parents regarding academic performance, behavior, and student progress.

  • Offer opportunities for parent engagement in science learning and classroom activities.

  • Stay current with developments in science education and instructional strategies.

  • Pursue opportunities for continuing education, conferences, and certification in science and teaching.
