The Band Director understands and promotes the school’s mission, vision, objectives, and policies within the immediate school community. The teacher is responsible for instructional planning, managing student behavior and classroom resources, delivering instruction, and assessing performance for all assigned students while creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the spiritual, social, and intellectual development of students.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational & Professional

  • Bachelor’s degree required (master’s or higher preferred) from an accredited university
    • Generalist: Education or education-related field required
    • Content Expert: Minimum of 20 college hours in related field required; degree in content area preferred
  • Previous experience as a classroom teacher preferred
  • Professional certification preferred
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills are required, with emphasis on presentation skills, interpersonal rapport, and confidence in communication with the full constituency of the organization, including colleagues, students, parents, volunteers, and community contacts
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Leadership, time management, and organizational skills are required, with the ability to manage and motivate others
  • Commitment to collaboration with colleagues is expected
  • Commitment to professional development, keeping current with accepted ideas, methods, and practices in education, while maintaining proficiency in content-related areas
  • Awareness of and openness to new trends in education are welcomed within the parameters of the school objectives and the Christian worldview

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

Essential Functions

  • Professional Knowledge: Demonstrate an understanding of the curriculum, subject content, and the developmental needs of students by providing relevant learning experiences
  • Instructional Planning: Plan using scope and sequence documents, course curriculum, effective strategies, supplemental resources, and data to meet the needs of all students
  • Instructional Delivery: Effectively engage students in learning by using a variety of instructional strategies to meet individual learning needs
  • Assessment of Learning: Systematically gather, analyze, and use all relevant data to measure student academic progress, guide instructional content and delivery methods, and provide timely feedback to both students and parents throughout the school year
  • Learning Environment: Use resources, routines, and procedures to provide a respectful, positive, and safe student-centered environment that is conducive to learning

· Professionalism:

  • Maintain a commitment to professional ethics, communicate effectively, and take responsibility for and participate in professional growth that results in enhanced student learning
  • Present self well to the Trinity community in dress, language, and manner
  • Student Academic Progress: Record and monitor academic progress of all students, taking care to communicate with parents if a grade drops below 70 percent

· Related Duties:

  • Participate in rehearsals, concerts, district, and state assessments as appropriate for band students
  • Share administrative duties with the Performing Arts faculty as assigned, i.e., developing concert programs, keeping bulletin boards up-to-date, preparing concert logistics, etc.
  • Communicate with students and parents in written form and on the class page regarding performances and rehearsals
  • Direct Concert Band rehearsals after school two days per week
  • Be mindful that day-to-day words, actions, and appearances, whether on or off campus, are perceived as representative of or acceptable to Trinity Christian School. As such, every contact with a current or prospective family or student involves a marketing component. Words, actions, and demeanor all contribute to the desirability of belonging to the Trinity community

 Supplemental Functions

  • Additional duties as assigned by the administration include, but are not limited to, carpool duty, seminar coverage, lunch duty, instructional support, athletic duty, special events, and support.

EVALUATION

  • Annual evaluation to be completed with supervisor
