SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: The Licensed Professional Counselor supports mental health needs of students in the Southside Christian School community. The counselor will provide mental health support to students, collaborate with teachers and families, and help create a safe, and supportive school environment. This position reports to the Director of Student Success Services.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide student support
    • Conduct assessments to identify student needs and recommend appropriate interventions.
    • Respond to crisis situations and provide immediate support, including risk assessments and safety planning.
    • Provide triage-type individual and group counseling to students experiencing emotional, behavioral, or psychological challenges.
    • When necessary, refer students/families to additional external counseling and support.
    • Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community mental health services.
    • Facilitate meetings with classes and student groups about stress/anxiety management and mental health issues.
    • Develop and implement mental health education and prevention programs.
    • Support a trauma-informed, culturally responsive school climate
  • Administrative responsibilities:
    • Maintain and track documentation of mental health support for students.
    • Consult with school administrators about students who are presenting challenges or facing significant issues.
    • Collaborate with school staff, families, and external providers to coordinate care and create support plans.

QUALIFIED APPLICANTS:

  • Must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ; be involved with an evangelical, protestant church of like faith and practice; and agree with the philosophies, Statement of Faith, and Statement of Christian Life Commitment of Southside Christian School.
  • Must be a spiritually mature, veteran Christian coach who agrees with the school’s Mission, Vision, Values, Biblical Beliefs, Statement of Christian Life Commitment, and Statement of Faith.
  • Must be a person with proven spiritual, moral, and leadership qualities, and be capable of developing a strong rapport with fellow coaches and student athletes and the SCS community.
  • Master’s degree in School Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Must maintain a valid state licensure (LPC).
  • Preferred experience working with children or adolescents.
  • Knowledge of mental health issues impacting school-aged youth.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in a quick, fast-paced, demanding environment.
  • Must have the ability to work with students experiencing emotional distress.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
