POSITION OBJECTIVE

The CFO plays a strategic leadership role in advancing the mission of Trinity Christian School of Fairfax (the “School”), particularly in the areas of School finance and human resources. This position reports directly to the Head of School / CEO, and is responsible for the following departments and staff:  Business Office, Director of Facilities, Director of Operations, and Health Services. The Director of Finance, CFO, is a member of the Senior Administrative Team (the “Cabinet”). In addition, this position serves as a staff member of the Board of Trustees Finance, Benefits, and Advancement Committees.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational & Professional

  • Bachelor’s degree required (CPA certification highly desired)
  • Strong background in accounting, finance, budgeting, and cash management
  • Previous supervisory experience ideal
  • Excellent English, written and oral communication skills are required, with emphasis on presentation skills, interpersonal rapport, and confidence in communication with the full constituency of the organization, including colleagues, students, parents, volunteers, and community contacts
  • Technical abilities and aptitude for learning new technology solutions, as well as computer literacy in MS Office products, particularly Word and Excel, as well as QuickBooks
  • Leadership, time management, and organizational skills are required, with the ability to manage and motivate others
  • Strategic thinker who makes valuable contributions to the planning and execution of the School’s short-range and long-range objectives
  • Commitment to collaboration with colleagues is expected
  • Commitment to professional development, bringing new trends and best practices to the School within the parameters of its objectives and the Christian worldview

RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

Essential Functions

  • Assist the Office of the Head of School, which includes the Head of School/CEO and the Assistant Head of School for Academics, in developing the School’s annual priorities, goals, and strategies
  • Supervise the work of the Business Office, Human Resources, and Health Services, which includes a staff of five, and is responsible for tuition management, purchasing, cash receipts, billing, general ledger, bank reconciliations, payroll, human resource benefits, and general business administration
  • Assist the Head of School/CEO by preparing Variable Tuition data for approval
  • Assist the Head of School/CEO in finding and operationalizing paths to support giving and donor development
    • Prepare a monthly operating statement for the Board of Trustees Finance Committee
    • Provide semi-annual GAAP financial reports for the Board of Trustees Finance Committee
    • Assist the Office of the Head of School in the execution of employment agreements
    • Assist the Office of the Head of School in the appropriate accounting for donor gifts to the School, including pledge payments, gifts of stocks and securities, and gifts-in-kind
    • Assist the Office of the Head of School and Board of Trustees in developing the School’s annual operating budget
    • Execute the effective implementation of the annual budget and propose revisions, as necessary, in response to significant or unforeseen financial developments
    • Work directly with the Finance Committee Chair to prepare for monthly committee meetings
    • Ad hoc support for the Board of Trustees Advancement and Benefits Committees
    • Secure an annual independent audit of the School’s financial records and ensure its successful completion
    • Secure an annual independent audit of the School’s 403(b) retirement plan and ensure its successful completion
    • In coordination with various department heads, review and approve all contracts with outside vendors providing services to the School
    • Provide ad hoc budget updates and tracking reports to various department heads
    • Ensure compliance with all pertinent government regulatory requirements, including but not limited to the IRS, Virginia’s Department of Consumer Services, and the State Corporation Commission
    • In conjunction with the Senior Administrative Team (SAT), ensure the School meets membership requirements of various accrediting bodies and professional associations, including but not limited to VCPE, ECFA, COGNIA, VISAA, VCAC, and NBOA
    • Cultivate and maintain all banking relationships
    • Meet all bank loan fiduciary requirements
    • Present self well to the Trinity community in dress, language, and manner

Supplemental Functions

  • Additional duties as assigned by the administration include but are not limited to carpool duty, seminar coverage, lunch duty, instructional support, athletic duty, special events support (i.e.; convocation, homecoming, and commencement), etc.

 

EVALUATION

  • Annual evaluation to be completed with supervisor
