Asheville Christian Academy is in search of a dedicated Senior Capstone Teacher for its Upper School, who will collaborate effectively with the assistant Senior Capstone instructor and other ACA faculty.
This position will work together with the Head of Academics and the Head of Upper School to re-design, update and develop a new vision and direction for the Capstone course. The Senior Capstone Instructor will take the lead on refining and implementing the vision and developing the course.
This role will guide students through the Senior Capstone class which serves as the culminating experience for high school students at Asheville Christian Academy that fosters their intellectual and personal growth, Biblical understanding of various topics, and readiness for their future academic and career paths.
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Educational Background: A bachelor's degree or higher in an English or other field that is applicable to a Capstone course
- Experience: A strong experience teaching at the high school level and a record of challenging students intellectually. Experience in a Christian School.
- Biblical Literacy: Proficiency in integrating Biblical principles and Christian worldview into curriculum, especially in guiding students in research projects. Ability to embed a Biblical perspective in academic and real-world discussions, promoting a holistic understanding of their faith in relation to their studies.
- Creativity: Will be able to take the current capstone course, that has been developing for 20+ years, and re-design it to align with our Portrait of a Graduate and the needs of our current graduates.
- Expertise in Persuasive Discourse: Skilled in guiding students through oral, visual, and written persuasive discourse, equipping them to effectively research, synthesize, and articulate arguments from a biblical perspective.
- Research and Synthesis Skills: Proficient in mentoring students to research multiple academic sources, synthesize diverse conversations, and critically address topics from an informed, biblical standpoint.
- Communication and Presentation Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on coaching students in creating impactful presentations and preparing for oral defenses before expert panels.
- Teamwork in Education: A strong proponent of collaborative teamwork in the classroom and between educators.
