JOB DESCRIPTION.

Second Baptist School (SBS) is seeking a full-time ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE GUIDANCE for the 2025-2026 school year. 

  • Position Title: Assistant Director of College Guidance
  • Reports To: Director of College Guidance
  • Work Calendar: Eleven Month

JOB SUMMARY.
The Assistant Director of College Guidance works in partnership with the Director of College Guidance and the Registrar to guide Second Baptist School Upper School students through the transition to post-secondary education. This role provides essential support through seminars, private consultations, college fairs, meetings with college recruiters, and interim term trips. The role focuses on walking students in obedience and excellence while seeking God's will for their futures.

RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES.
Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to:

  • Participate in individual college consultations for juniors and parents, discussing the college search, application process, SAT/ACT testing, and course selection.
  • Offer resources for SBS families to better understand and navigate the college application process.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between the student and the university for initial contact and help ensure successful processing of the student’s application and supplemental materials.
  • Lead the crafting of personalized recommendations for each student to accompany college applications.
  • Organize and monitor the process for students to request faculty recommendations.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of College Day, Junior College Guidance Kick-off, the mini spring college fair, and college representative visits to SBS.
  • Assist with communication between the College Guidance Office and the SBS community through pushpages, announcements, and speaking engagements.
  • Actively participate in college counselor luncheons to maintain relationships with various universities and stay updated on university changes.
  • Network with college recruiters to ensure they know SBS and the rigor of our curriculum and the quality of our students.
  • Oversee student use of the online database, Naviance.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of graduation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED.
To perform this job successfully, candidates must:

  • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills to effectively work with students, parents, faculty, and college representatives.
  • Be highly organized and able to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Have a deep understanding of the college application process, including standardized testing, college essays, and admissions strategies.
  • Exhibit a strong ability to mentor students and guide them through the college admissions process in a Christ-centered manner.
  • Be familiar with Naviance and other relevant tools to manage and track student progress.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills in organizing and executing school-wide events related to college guidance.
  • Maintain confidentiality, understanding the responsibility of handling sensitive student information.
  • Display a deep appreciation and understanding of Second Baptist School’s mission, policies, procedures, and philosophy.

CANDIDATE SUMMARY.
We seek the following in qualified candidates:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, with a preference for education, counseling, or a related field.
  • Certification in college access counseling is highly preferred
  • Proven experience in college admissions or counseling, with a strong knowledge of the college application process.
  • A strong Christian testimony and a calling to serve as a positive Christian role model for students.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to balance multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A heart for serving students and families, guiding them through a significant life transition.
  • A proactive approach to staying informed about trends and changes in the college admissions process.

Experience in independent school college counseling or a background in higher education admissions is considered a plus. Knowledge of Second Baptist School and Church is also beneficial.
