JOB DESCRIPTION.

Second Baptist School seeks a full-time COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST for the 2025-2026 school year.

  • Position Title: Communications Specialist
  • Reports To: Director of Communications
  • Work Calendar: Eleven Month 

JOB SUMMARY. 

The communications specialist works with the director of communications and the communications team to play a key role in Second Baptist School’s communications, marketing and publications efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES.

Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with all school departments to develop and support communication and publication needs.
  • Identify, develop and write compelling stories for the SBS community, including website content, school news, on-campus events, content marketing pieces and human interest articles that highlight the school's mission, values and student achievements.
  • Work closely with the communications team to create and convey authentic messaging about SBS.
  • Contribute to the school’s social media platforms, including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, in collaboration with the visual communications specialist as needed.
  • Collaborate with school departments to assess communication needs, determine the most effective media, and develop cost-efficient solutions to amplify the school's message.
  • Develop strategic communication materials that align with the school’s mission and values.
  • Manage multiple projects effectively, meeting deadlines and budget constraints using project management tools (Trello, ClickUp and CoSchedule).
  • Serve as a regular writer and editor for Eagle magazine.
  • Assist in coordinating the school’s individual picture process.
  • Review and refine written materials to maintain clarity, consistency and professionalism.
  • Uphold the school's brand identity by maintaining consistency in logos, typography and colors across all materials.
  • Ensure all communications strengthen and uphold the school’s brand.
  • Capture and curate photography for school events as needed.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED.

To perform this job successfully, candidates must:

  • Possess strong interpersonal communication skills to effectively collaborate with assigned departments, offering guidance and consultation on communication strategies and design.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator, with a foundational understanding of design principles.
  • Demonstrate strong critical thinking and analytical skills, proactively identifying and solving communication challenges.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and deadlines with strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, ensuring consistency with the school's branded style guide. Exceptional grammar and editing skills are a plus.
  • Uphold confidentiality with a clear understanding of its importance and responsibility.
  • Fully embrace and actively support Second Baptist School’s mission, policies, procedures and philosophy. 

CANDIDATE SUMMARY.

We seek the following in qualified candidates:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, public relations, journalism, photography, media, film or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience as a writer with advanced editing skills.
  • A strong Christian testimony and a calling to serve as a positive Christian role model to students.
  • A commitment to providing exceptional customer service to all members of the community.
  • A desire to lead and support all school-wide initiatives.
  • A responsible steward of the school’s resources and a personal commitment to supporting the school’s fundraising efforts.

Candidates with independent school marketing/communications experience and prior knowledge of Second Baptist Church and School are considered a plus.
