Elementary Band Teacher
Part Time, 9 Months (Sept-May), Exempt
Reports to: Director of Fine Arts
Education/Experience Required/Preferred: A four-year education degree is required. Master’s Degree in Music field is preferred.
Salary Range: $5,000 - $7,000/year + a $1,000/year performance stipend (The salary is the expected range and is dependent on candidate qualifications.)
General Summary:
Under the supervision of the Director of Fine Arts , this instructor is responsible for teaching music basics, performance techniques, and how to read music to our students. This instructor will work with the Director of Fine Arts, Performing Arts department, and students to assure a positive and excellent experience for students and successful public performances. Each teacher at Village Christian School will incorporate into their teaching a worldview that is distinctly Christian and will also demonstrate excellent teaching, learning, thinking, and expression.
Description of Basic Functions and Responsibilities:
Teach the assigned sections - Beginning Band and Intermediate Band (3rd - 5th grade students)
Using wind, brass and percussion instruments, this class exposes students to different genres of music. They will develop skills in their own instrument, while learning to play as a group. There are multiple performances per year, as well as a festival.
Attend rehearsals and performances, actively participating in assisting students in sectional and whole group rehearsals.
Teach skills in music understanding/appreciation, harmony, explorations in music to Elementary students.
Provide individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student. Encourage students to develop individual musical skills to the greatest extent possible.
Assign equipment responsibilities and assign equipment to students.
Additional Related Duties/Responsibilities:
Select appropriate music, books, and instructional aids to enhance learning and requisitions musical instruments and instructional supplies as necessary.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Specific Classroom Responsibilities:
Maintains a disciplined learning environment within the classroom, which is built out of respect, grace, and passion for their subject
Is available to students and parents either before or after school.
Potential Schedule starting the week of September 9:
Beginning Band (3rd-5th Grade)
Tues/Fri: 7:30 - 8:15 AM
Intermediate Band (3rd-5th Grade)
Mon/Thurs 7:30 - 8:15 AM
Performances:
December 17 and May 13
Additional Festival date TBD
Retreat Day:
March 8
Qualifications
